Courses taught:
constitutional law, conflicts, evidence, Louisiana
family law, matrimonial regimes, advanced legal
writing, legal negotiation, and agency and
partnership.
Professor Franks
joined the Law Center faculty in 1990 and was
promoted to professor in 2004. He served as an
Associate Professor of Law at the Université de
Cergy-Pontoise (Université de Paris X, Cergy) from
August 1992 to August 1993, where he designed
introductory American-law curriculum and taught
French law students basic American-law courses,
including Introduction to the Anglo-American Legal
System, Constitutional Law, Torts, Civil Procedure
and Evidence.
After admission to the bar in
1968, Prof. Franks served as Law Clerk to Chief
Justice John A. Dixon of the Supreme Court of
Louisiana and then as Assistant District Attorney
for the City of New Orleans. Following this, he
created and developed a family law practice.
Professor Franks received his
B.S. from Memphis State University, where he majored
in political science and minored in speech and
debate. He received his J.D. from Memphis State
University in 1968.
Professor Franks, a licensed
airline pilot and certified flight instructor, is
widely traveled in United States, Canada, Europe,
Africa and the Caribbean. He is knowledgeable both
in the common law and the civil law and is fluent in
French.
