Courses taught: Criminal Law, Criminal Procedure and Evidence

 

He founded the Southern University Law Center Chapter of the Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project in 2009. He serves as its director. Professor Jones is a 1982 magna cum laude graduate of Southern University School of Law. While in law school he served as the articles editor of the Southern University Law Review. In 1992, he earned an LL.M. in labor law from the Georgetown University School of Law. He teaches courses in criminal law, criminal procedure, and evidence.   

 

Professor Jones is the co-author of two books:  Harges and Jones’, Louisiana Evidence, 2010 (Thomson-West Publishing Co., Lawyers Practice Series) and Harges and Jones’, Louisiana Evidence: Problems and Materials.  Professor Jones has written several articles on Louisiana evidence and the Fourth Amendment of the United States Constitution. 

 

Professor Jones was named 2010 Distinguished Professor by the Louisiana Bar Foundation. In April 2010, Professor Jones was awarded the Louis A. Martinet Legal Foundation Outstanding Community Service Award, and in September 2009, Professor Jones received the Kean Miller Diversity Achievement award. In 2002, he received the Louisiana State Bar Association Stephen T. Victory Award for his article, Louisiana Evidence Article 412.2.  He has been selected several times as professor of the year by the student body at the Law Center.
