Dr. Paul Race joined the Law Center faculty in 2003 as a visiting professor before becoming an Assistant Professor of Law. A graduate of Rice University in Houston, Texas, Dr. Race earned an M.D. at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, practicing as an Obstetrician/ and Gynecologist for a number of years.
After earning his juris doctor degree in 1997 from Duke University School of Law, Dr. Race entered the practice of law in Durham, North Carolina, initially specializing in medical malpractice before expanding to contract, small business and insurance law. In addition, Dr. Race practiced in real estate law including developing expertise in Section 8 Housing, non-profit law, and tax credits. Dr. Race’s areas of publication include Americans with Disability, and health law payment and policy. Current interests include but are not limited to studying current trends in Nanotechnology and its impact on the law and Insurance law and policy.
Currently, Dr. Race serves as Chairmen of the Board of Directors of Aneurysm Outreach, Inc., a 501c3 qualified non-profit that provides one of a kind free screenings for Aortic Aneurysms and is Chairmen of the Board of Ariel CDC, also a 501c3 non-profit and the only CHDO in downtown Chicago. Ariel CDC specializes in the development of low income and mixed use housing, both of multifamily and single family homes. In addition, he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Louisiana Center for Health Equity, a Baton Rouge 501c3 organization that works to address the increasing disparities in health and health care across Louisiana and he represents Southern University Law Center as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Mental Health Advocacy Service.
