Ruth Bailey Wesley joined the Southern University Law Center in 2007 as Executive Assistant to the Chancellor.  Wesley earned a B.A. degree from Southern University and a J.D. from the Southern University Law Center.  While there, she was a member of the Southern University Law Review and a Teaching Assistant. 

As Executive Assistant, Wesley serves as primary policy researcher for the Chancellor to furnish data and facts related to on-going and emerging issues of import to the Law Center and provide confidential, complex policy and administrative support to the Chancellor.  She is responsible for the production of a comprehensive annual report, monthly reports that are prepared for the SU Board of Supervisors, and other reports requested by the Chancellor.  She chairs search committees for various staff positions, creates and maintains department and employee files, and supervises and evaluates staff in the faculty area.  Wesley also serves as Administrator for the Loan Reduction Assistance Program at the Law Center.

Prior to joining the Law Center administration, she was an Administrative Law Judge with the Louisiana Department of Social Services and spent 12 years at the Louisiana Department of Justice as an Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Rights, General Liability and Gaming divisions.

Wesley is a member of  the American Bar Association, Louisiana State Bar Association, Baton Rouge Bar Association, and Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity.
