Directory of Library Services 2010

Computer Lab Access
Two computer labs, which are open during Law Library hours, are available to registered law students, faculty, and staff. Food and drinks are not allowed in the labs.

Hardware and Software
The computer lab in Room 168 of the Law Library is equipped with 23 workstations, three laser printers, and a scanner. Eight workstations, one laser printer, and two Westlaw and Lexis-Nexis printers are located in the Westlaw and Lexis-Nexis computer room. All computer rooms are equipped with a variety of software, including Microsoft Office 2003, Lexis-Nexis, and Westlaw.

Laser printing is available for $.03 per page in the computer labs. Printing is charged through a vend-a-card reader that users may obtain with a valid school ID card. Visitors may print by obtaining a debit card from the Library Director’s office.

A lab tech assistant is available to help you if you experience any problems while printing. However, you should think carefully before using the printers as you will be charged for all print jobs. At the beginning of the semester, you will receive some free copies. At the end of each semester, the copiers will be reset to zero. Please put on your card only what you will use, there will be no carry-overs.

The Westlaw and Lexis-Nexis online services have their stand-alone printers in the labs and you should route your print jobs using these services to the appropriate printers.

If you feel you should not be charged for a particular print job, for example, the printer jammed or ran out of toner, you should ask the lab tech assistant.

Lab Assistants and Student Representatives
Computer lab assistants are available during all open library hours to help with any questions regarding lab policies and technical problems. The main office is located in Room 168. For additional assistance, contact the library’s system administrator at labhelp@sulc.edu or (225) 771-2194. Help is also available through the Law Center’s Office of Information Technology located on the second floor of A.A. Lenoir Hall.

Reference librarians and student representatives are available to help with questions regarding Westlaw and Lexis-Nexis. If you have not been issued a Westlaw or Lexis-Nexis password and feel that you may qualify or you are having problems with your existing password, please contact them during the student work hours posted or the Reference Librarian’s office. Passwords are issued to authorized Law Center users only.
