Center Fall Semester Opens August 13
Baton Rouge, LA—
Associate Justice John L. Weimer, III,
of the Louisiana Supreme Court and
Louisiana State Bar Association
President Kim M. Boyle will address the
2009 incoming class of 255 entering
students at the annual Law Center
Orientation at 10 a.m., Thursday, August
13, in 129-130 A. A. Lenoir Hall.
Chancellor Freddie
Pitcher, Jr., SBA president Raushanah
Hunter, and the rest of the Law Center
family will greet the new students, who
will participate in the Student
Orientation on Professionalism,
conducted by the LSBA Committee on the
profession.
Elected
to the Louisiana Supreme Court in 2001,
Justice Weimer now serves a full
ten-year term after being elected
unopposed in 2002. A member of the
Louisiana judiciary since 1995, Justice
Weimer served as Judge pro tempore of
the 17th Judicial District Court,
Division D; was elected judge for the
17th Judicial District Court, Division
A, in 1995 and re-elected in 1996
without opposition, and was elected
judge of the 1st Circuit Court of
Appeal, District 1, Division B, in 1998.
Boyle, a partner in the
employment law practice group of Phelps
Dunbar L.L.P. in New Orleans, was sworn
in as the 69th LSBA president on June
12, 2009. Boyle's practice includes
representing employers in employment
related claims, such as retaliation and
discrimination claims as well as
workplace harassment. She also handles
Equal Employment Opportunity Commission
charges and other administrative
complaints through the administrative
and judicial process.
LSBA Committee
representative Barry H. Grodsky, will
give an introduction and overview of the
orientation before the students attend
breakout sessions conducted by volunteer
alumni members of the bar.
General orientation for
first-year evening students will begin
at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, August 13.
Orientation will continue with skills
sessions at 9 a.m. Friday, August 14, at
the Law Center. Registration will be
held 9 a.m.- noon and 1:30-6:30 p.m.,
Monday, August 17, in the Law Center
atrium. Classes will begin on Tuesday,
August 18.
