SULC Alum Confirmed

District Judge for Louisiana’s Middle District
Brian A. Jackson, ‘85, has been confirmed by
the U.S. Senate to be the U.S. District Judge for the Middle
District of Louisiana.
Jackson is the first SULC alumnus to be
appointed to the federal bench. He was recommended to
President Barack Obama last July by U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu.
A shareholder in Liskow and Lewis in New
Orleans, Jackson joined the firm following a 16-year career
in the U.S. Department of Justice. Jackson is a former first
assistant U.S. attorney in Baton Rouge and served for a time
as acting U.S. attorney for the Middle District. He also has
been an associate deputy attorney general in Washington,
D.C.
He has served as United States Attorney for
the Middle District of Louisiana, First Assistant United
States Attorney for that district and Associate Deputy
Attorney General in Washington, D.C.
As a member of the Liskow and Lewis
litigation group, Jackson represents corporations in
business and commercial disputes, including energy
litigation, tax claims, and other matters. He counsels
individuals and businesses in state and federal criminal
investigations involving a variety of alleged white-collar
crimes, including environmental matters, customs violations,
health care, and other commercial matters.
Jackson earned a bachelor’s degree from
Xavier University of Louisiana; a J.D. from SULC, where he
was editor of the Southern University Law Review, and a
LL.M. from Georgetown University Law Center. Jackson and
members of his law school study group were known as “The
Corporation.” This group established the Tyrone Key
Memorial “Corporation” Scholarship Fund, which provides two
scholarships annually to deserving students at SULC. He is
the first graduate of the SULC to serve on the Admissions
Committee for the Louisiana Supreme Court, where he wrote
the bar examination on criminal law and evidence.
Jackson is a 2010 inductee in the SULC Hall
of Fame. He is a member of the Baton Rouge Bar Association,
the Federal Bar Association, and Louisiana State Bar
Association. Jackson is also a Fellow of the Louisiana Bar
Foundation, a member of the Federation of Defense and
Corporate Counsel and a Fellow of the American College of
Trial Lawyers.
