Chancellor's Message

Welcome to the Southern University Law Center website!

Thank you for your interest in the Southern University Law Center, a Mission-Driven Institution that values access and opportunity. I believe that you will find information about our faculty, staff, students, alumni, and programs of legal education quite helpful.

We are proud to say that we are one of the most diverse law schools in the nation--in both our faculty and student body--and have consistently been recognized for awarding law degrees with the most value at graduation. We have been successful in training more than 3,000 lawyers who have made their mark in all aspects of the legal profession. Our graduates are practitioners in large and small law firms, members of the judiciary, and leaders in local, state, and national government. We are also proud of our history that's inextricably tied to the civil rights struggle dating back to the 1950s, and note that our graduates are still in the forefront of litigating cutting-edge civil/human rights issues of today.

The mentoring approach that we take at the Southern University Law Center creates a special environment that undergirds the teaching and learning process and enriches our students' matriculation during law school and life beyond. Not only are we equipping our students with the tools to become outstanding lawyers, we are also equipping them with the tools to become leaders in the 21st Century.

As you peruse our website, you will find valuable information about the legal education and the many co-curricular programs that we offer at the Law Center. Also, you will find information about our outstanding Law Clinic, joint degree program, moot court competitions, and Study Abroad Program in London, England.

We ask for your feedback as you learn more about what our Law Center has to offer. Please visit us in person and again on this website.

With warmest regards,

John K. Pierre
Interim Chancellor and Vanue B. Lacour Endowed Professor
