What are the policies and procedures for the safe handling of the multimedia equipment in all the classrooms?

The multimedia equipment on the podiums in all the classrooms are highly sensitive. It is the Law Center's policy that, with the exception of ITSS, NO ONE has the permission to try to troubleshoot the equipment. Users can only operate the VCR/DVD, PC, and the touchpad remote control. In case there is any issue or problem with the equipment, call ITSS immediately at 771-4987, 771-5814, or 771-4912. DO NOT try to shut down the equipment at any time.

How do I give a PowerPoint presentation in the classrooms using the projector and the screen?

  • Press a Source that you like to use (i.e. PC, Laptop, DVD/VCR), if you select PC, you must use a SULC account to log on to the Computer.

  • Make sure that the screen is rolled down. Select "Projector Controls" and power on the projector.

  • If the user has a PowerPoint file on a CD or a USB Drive, insert the USB Drive or the CD in the appropriate drive of the PC inside the podium.

  • Start the PowerPoint application and go to FILE, OPEN, and select the appropriate path to the PowerPoint file to be run.

  • At the end of the presentation, make sure that you remove your CD and/or USB Drive, close the applications, LOG OFF, shut down the projector, and roll up the screen.

May I use my own laptop to do PowerPoint presentations in any of the classrooms?

Yes, you can use your own laptop for the PowerPoint Presentation. There is a VGA cable on the podium in the cubby. Connect that VGA cable to the VGA port of your laptop. Connect the laptop power supply to the power socket in the cubby. Select the laptop source and toggle to laptop to the external display based opon your computer's manufacturers instructions.

How do I use the multimedia equipment in the classrooms to show a VHS tape?

  • Make sure that the screen is rolled down. Select "Projector Controls" and power on the projector.

  • Press "Select Source" and select "VCR." You should be able to see the video on the screen.

  • Insert the tape into the VCR. One can use the VCR controls on the panel on the podium instead of the VCR itself.

  • At the end of the presentation, make sure that you remove your tape, shut down the projector, and roll up the screen.

How do I use the multimedia equipment in the classrooms to show a DVD?

All desktops or PCs in the classrooms have a DVD drive. One may use DVD media for presentation in the classrooms at the Law Center. Follow the steps below for using the DVD:

  • If classroom podium has a DVD/VCR Combo inside, insert DVD into combo.

  • Insert the DVD in the DVD drive of the PC inside the podium.

  • After completing step 1 or 2, select the source of choice from source control panel on the podium one time. If PC is selected, you should be able to see the desktop on the screen.

  • Either click on "Computer" in the "Start Menu" or go to the Windows explorer and select the DVD drive. Double click on the appropriate file to present a movie. Generally, once the DVD media is inserted into the DVD drive, a menu pops up with one of the options Play this DVD. Double click on this option to play the DVD.

  • At the end of the presentation, make sure that you remove your DVD. If you used a PC, close the applications, LOG OFF, and press "System OFF" on the source control panel to shut off projector and roll up screen.

Can I connect to the internet in the classrooms?

All classrooms have Internet connectivity. One may use the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop of the PC to connect to the Internet for browsing.

The multimedia equipment is not working. What do I do?

Contact ITSS at 771-4987, 771-5814, or 771-4912 for immediate assistance. No one may troubleshoot the equipment but ITSS.
