Not Just
Rhetoric...Backed Up With Hard Numbers
The Southern
University Law Center received high marks
from the National Jurist, a
national publication for law students, in
its March 2004 edition for gender and ethnic
diversity. To determine which law schools
have done the best job of promoting gender
and ethnic diversity, the National
Jurist compared the enrollments of
women and minorities at 172 law schools in
1993 and 2003. The Law Center ranked 20th
out of 172 law students for having the most
diverse student population. The ranking
means that this institution is among the top
12 percent of law schools in terms of gender
and ethnic diversity. The findings
illustrate that promoting gender and ethnic
diversity at the Law Center has been a long
standing commitment that is backed up with
hard numbers and not rhetoric. Based on the
findings, SULC is clearly the most gender
and ethnically diverse law school in the
state of Louisiana. Again, we have been
recognized nationally for our leadership
role in creating equal opportunity and
opening access to legal education for
underrepresented minorities. |
