Message from the Chancellor

The Office of Career Counseling & Development is dedicated to increasing employment opportunities for our students.  We are constantly exploring new resources to assist our students with their job search efforts.  Our goals are to provide the students with the most up-to-date information regarding the job market and assist each student with his or her individual career development needs.

To those ends, we provide the following services for our students and alumni:

CAREER COUNSELING

  • Counseling sessions as requested

  • Student orientation with the office & services provided

  • Student registration with office

  • Review & edit of resumes and cover letters

OTHER INFORMATION RESOURCES

  • Professional Development Workshops

  • Peer Pointer Sessions

  • Alternative Legal Careers Seminars

  • Mock Interviews

  • Judicial Clerkships-Informational Seminars

  • Professionalism Seminars

  • Resume and Cover Letter Training

 

EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE

  • Register students and alumni on Symplicity, our virtual career counseling office

  • Coordinate fall and spring semester On-Campus Interviews (OCI)

  • Coordinate off campus interviews for students

  • Post and notify students and alumni regarding available positions

  • Coordinate student and alumni participation in regional and national job fairs

We are committed to providing specialized career counseling, collecting and distributing vital information and resources, and offering critical skills training, while leading the efforts of the law school to establish relationships with employers. We strive to be a major marketing and outreach program for the Law Center and an invaluable resource for both law students and graduates as they chart their career paths.

The Office of Career Counseling and Development is located in Suite 116 of the Southern University Law Center and is open for business between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday, with evening appointments available upon request.
