Students
graduating from the Southern University Law Center who wish
to become members of the Louisiana State Bar Association
must comply with Article XIV, Section 7 of the Articles of
Incorporation of the Louisiana State Bar Association, as
amended. Under those provisions, graduates of an accredited
law center/school are required to take the bar examination
in order to practice law in the State of Louisiana.
Every prospective
applicant for admission to the Bar of this state who is
enrolled in one of the ABA accredited law schools located in
this state shall participate in the Law Student Registration
Program administered by the National Conference of Bar
Examiners (NCBE). Not later than the beginning of the fall
semester of the second academic year of law school, each
prospective applicant shall submit an application to the
NCBE and pay the fee prescribed by it. The NCBE shall
conduct an investigation into the applicant’s character and
fitness and submit to the Committee a preliminary report of
its findings.

Law students
applying for admission to the bar in other states should
familiarize themselves with the applicable rules governing
bar admission requirements. Many states require students to
register with their state board of bar examiners prior to
the commencement of legal training.
