The Path to Financial Independence program:

• utilizes each HBCU’s experience in developing and implementing wealth building strategies that have been proven successful in moving working families from poverty
• integrates Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) (www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=107626,00.html) , Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) (www.irs.gov/individuals/article/0,,id=96466,00.html), and Individual Development Account (IDA) programs (www.cfed.org/focus.m?parentid=2&siteid=374&id=374)
• incorporates financial education training

• funded by W.K. Kellogg Foundation (www.wkkf.org)

   

The joint effort affords the collaborating Historically Black Colleges and Universities

• a greater opportunity to serve their neighboring communities;

• improve the economic well being of families through building family income and assets; and

• help families understand strategies for growing a more sound economic foundation for increasing financial stability
