Tavares A. Walker currently serves as the System Executive Director for Compliance & Ethics and Associate General Counsel with the Southern University and A&M College System. Formally, Tavares was the Director for the Office of Career Services. As a reservist, Tavares is a Captain in the U.S. Army, Louisiana Army National Guard, Judge Advocate General Corps currently serving as the Deputy Command Judge Advocate for the 225th Engineer Brigade.
He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Business in 2005 from Louisiana State University and A&M College. He later earned a Juris Doctor in May 2008 from the Southern University Law Center.
He is an active member of the American Bar Association, the Louisiana State Bar Association, American Inns of Court, Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity, National Bar Association, and the Baton Rouge Bar Association. He is a member of the Louis A. Martinet Legal Society of Greater Baton Rouge, the National Association of Law Career Professionals, and the National Association of College and University Attorneys.
Prior to his university service, Tavares was a Staff Attorney with Acadiana Legal Service Corporation, where he practiced family law. Walker has worked on the legal staff of the Louisiana State Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, and the 17th Judicial District Court Indigent Defender’s Office.
