Koshaneke N. Gilbert is a native of White Castle, Louisiana. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from Southern University and A&M College in 2004, and her Juris Doctor from Southern University Law Center in May 2008. While at Southern University Law Center, Koshaneke served as the senior class president, the publicist for Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity, as well as the LexisNexis representative. She also participated in the Southern University Law Center Clinical Education program as a Tax Attorney.
Koshaneke has been licensed to practice law since 2008, and began her legal career with a private practice law firm in the Shreveport, Louisiana area. While there, she did defense work for the City of Shreveport. After leaving private practice, Koshaneke began working at Legal Services Corporation of North Louisiana. There, she handled divorces, custody disputes, protective orders, and other issues related to family law. Following Legal Services, Koshaneke went on to serve as an Assistant City Attorney for the City of Shreveport, Louisiana. She provided legal counsel to various departments and boards within the City of Shreveport such as: the Department of Community Development, Shreveport Public Assembly, and Recreation, Personnel, Metropolitan Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals, Zoning Enforcement, Health Care Trust Fund Board, Loan Review Committee, and the Mayor’s Internal Communication Task Force. In addition, she also served as a Prosecutor for the city. Koshaneke joined the Law Center staff as a Career Counselor in the Office of Career Services on February 2017.
