Professor Regina Ramsey James joined the Law Center as director of Career Counseling and Development, formerly the Office of Placement and Career Services, in September 2000. Prior to joining the Law Center administration, James was a judicial law clerk (November 1997 – September 2000) for the Honorable John Michael Guidry of the First Circuit Court of Appeal. She is also a former associate with McGlinchey Stafford (August 1996 – November 1997) first in the firm’s New Orleans office and then in the Baton Rouge office.

The 1996 magna cum laude law graduate, who ranked number one in her class, was editor-in-chief of the Southern University Law Review and a member of the Moot Court Board, where she was winner of awards for Best Brief and Best Team in the Intra-school Competition. She is a magna cum laude graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, where she was inducted in Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Gamma Sigma and was the recipient of the Green “S” Service Award.

James is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the National Bar Association, Louis A. Martinet Legal Society, Southern University Law Center Alumni Association and Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity. She was the recipient of the Martinet Foundation’s 2001 Outstanding Mentor Award for participation in the Martinet Mentors Project.

Professor James’ research and scholarship focuses on education law and constitutional law. Her recent article titled “”How to Fulfill a Broken Promise: Revisiting and Reaffirming the Importance of Desegregated Equal Educational Access and Opportunity” recently appeared at 68 Arkansas Law Review 159 (2015). She is also a frequent CLE speaker on issues of professionalism and ethics.
