Shawn D. Vance joined the Law Center in 2000. He oversees the Law Center’s supplemental bar review program and academic support and counseling services, as well as teaches the bar preparatory course, Statutory Analysis. His teaching focus is in the area of civil law courses, such as property and sales & lease, and employment law.

Prof. Vance was formerly employed in the Office of Civil Rights of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). During his tenure with the USDA, the Baton Rouge native was involved in the reorganization of the Department’s Civil Rights activities, specifically its administrative adjudication of discrimination complaints filed by USDA customers. He served as the lead adjudicator of USDA’s Program Complaints Unit and managed the law intern program.

Prof. Vance earned a B.S. degree from Southern University in Chemistry and a J.D. from Southern University Law Center. While a student at the Law Center, he served as an Associate Editor of the Southern University Law Review, a member of the Moot Court board, and President of the Student Bar Association. He earned a LL.M. in Labor and Employment Law at Georgetown University Law Center in 1999.
