Courses taught:  Mediation Law Clinic

 

 Alvin Washington is the clinical professor for the mediation clinic. He also teaches a conflict resolution course at the Southern University Graduate School, has co-taught conflict resolution courses at the law center, and has provided conflict resolution training for East Baton Rouge Parish employees at the Baton Rouge Community College. For three years, he was the Director of the Louisiana Agricultural Mediation Program administered by SULC.   Washington is a registered civil mediator with the Louisiana State Bar Association and has mediated over 400 cases.


He received his B.S. degree from Grambling State University and his J.D from SULC. He served as a military trail lawyer and Department Head for the Claims Division in the United States Navy while stationed in Long Beach , California . He was also appointed as a special assistant to the United States Attorney General for the Central District of California.  After completing his tour of duty, Washington returned to Louisiana were he was employed as an assistant attorney general handling general liability, road hazards, and civil rights cases. Prior to joining the law center’s staff in 2003, he served as the Section Chief of the Civil Rights Division of the Louisiana Department of Justice for four years.
