In 2008,
Berryl Gordon-Thompson, title was officially changed
to Associate Vice Chancellor for Academic Support
Programs and Academic Counseling at Southern
University Law Center. Her goal is to enhance the
overall academic performance of all students.
Gordon-Thompson joined the Law Center as Director of
Development and Alumni Affairs in 1993. As
Director, she has provided the Law Center with many
of its firsts. Gordon-Thompson created the Law
Center’s first magazine, Reflections,
created the Lenoir Legacy gift giving
newsletter, produced the center’s first recruitment
video and coordinated the 50th
Anniversary Celebration and video presentation with
Vice President Al Gore as special guest and drafted
the Charter for the American Inns of Court, serving
as its administrator from 1995-2003.
Before
joining the Law Center, Gordon-Thompson’s 25
professional career years included serving as
two-term president of the National Association of
Senior Companion Directors in Washington, D.C. She
has previously served as Vice President of
Advertising for a fortune 500 company in Los
Angeles, California, and Assistant Vice President
for Advertising and Customer Relations with a large
pharmaceutical company. She has also worked as a
Senior Loan Officer for one of the largest
commercial banks.
Gordon-Thompson has provided oral and written
testimony before the U.S. Senate Finance Committee
on numerous occasions. In 1991, she served on a
congressional commission, which provided
recommendations for the White House Conference on
Aging. She is published in Southern University Law
Review and has coauthored an international
publication on volunteerism.
Associate Vice Chancellor
Gordon-Thompson earned her Juris Doctorate from
Southern University Law Center, her Bachelor of
Science degree from Southern University, and
received her certification as a fund-raising
executive from Indiana-Purdue University. She also
attended the Academy of Politics at Louisiana State
University and is a congressional and state
lobbyist. As an attorney, Gordon-Thompson is a
member in good standing with the American, National,
and Louisiana Bar Associations and is listed in
Who’s Who Among International Professionals and
Masters of the Bench with the American Inns of
Court. She is also a member of Delta Theta Phi Law
Fraternity, Council for Advancement and Support of
Education, the National Association of Female
Executives and a Fellow with the Louisiana Bar
Foundation and serves on the LBF’s Grants
Committee. Gordon-Thompson is also a long standing
member of the Henri Capitant Civil Law Society. She
serves on several other national, regional and local
organizations. Currently she is Of Counsel with The
Law Firm of Thompson, Thompson and Thompson LLC.
