Professor Coon is an associate professor of law who
joined the Law Center in 1989. In 1991, he became
the director of the Pre-Law Academic Assistance
Program and bar review coordinator. Prof. Coon's
legal career in public interest law includes
assistant attorney general for the Louisiana
Department of Justice and East Baton Rouge Parish
Public Defender. He was formerly an associate with
White, Jones, and Lombard in New Orleans, Louisiana,
and is a former law clerk for Louisiana Supreme
Court Justice Revius O. Ortique, Jr., (retired) when
Ortique served on the New Orleans Civil District
Court.
A 1981 Law Center graduate, Prof. Coon earned a B.A.
in political science in 1976 from Southern
University and A & M College. While attending law
school, he was executive editor of the Southern
University Law Review and served on the Moot Court
Board. Prof. Coon earned an LL.M. in environmental
law from Tulane University School of Law in 2003.
