Librarian Liaisons

An important service the Library offers is the opportunity for each faculty member to have a librarian assigned as her/his personal liaison for Library Services.

One of the challenges in dealing with any library is first discovering, then remembering who is responsible for what. If you want to order a book, you see one department. If you want to borrow a book, you see another department. If you have library technology questions, yet another department; and on and on...

What we would like to do is make your liaison the go-to person for whatever you need from the Library. For example, if Mr. Harold Isadore were your liaison, and you wanted to order a book, you could call him; if you wanted to borrow a book, still  Mr. Isadore; LEXIS or WESTLAW questions....you got it: Mr. Isadore.

This does not mean that Mr. Isadore (or any liaison) is taking over all library functions. We are good, but not that good. Rather, the liaison will handle all requests within her/his expertise personally; for requests requiring additional assistance, the liaison will arrange for them to be taken care of by the appropriate department or individual (s), and will then follow up to assure timely closure.

This does not preclude the option of dealing directly with the department or person (s) responsible for the service you need if you prefer. And, there are some tasks more appropriately handled by research assistants (such things as pulling books from the shelves or making photocopies). The idea here is to make the solutions to your library-related needs as seamless as possible.

If you are interested in being assigned a liaison, or have questions about the program, please contact the Director’s Office at (225) 771-2315.PartTime/Adjunct Faculty should also contact the director if they wish to be assigned a library liaison.
