Smith, a second-year law student, has
been elected 2008-09 Student
Bar Association president at the
Southern University Law Center.
Judge John Michael Guidry of the First
Circuit Court of Appeal conducted the
swearing in ceremony for the new
officers at noon Monday, April 14, in
the Law
Center’s Atrium.
Smith, a native of Shreveport,
Louisiana, was second-year class
president in
2007-08 and is active in a number of law
organizations. She is a member of Delta
Theta
Phi Law Fraternity, for which she served
as the 2007-2008 bailiff, and is a
member of the
Criminal Law Society, Moot Court Board,
and the Black Law Student’s Association
(BLSA).
Smith serves as an ex-officio chair of
the Curriculum Committee, an ex-officio
member of the Beautification Committee,
and is a member of the Barrister’s Ball
Committee, Fall Fest Committee, Lecture
Series Committee, and Orientation
Committee.
She is a teaching assistant for Criminal
Law, Legal Writing, and Family Law. She
has
been named the senior associate editor
for the newly established Law Center
publication,
The Journal of Race, Gender and Poverty.
Smith earned a B.A. in Political Science
from Louisiana State University in
Shreveport. After law school, she plans
to be a litigation attorney and
ultimately become
a judge.
