Mitchell Named Thurgood Marshall College Fund Student Ambassador

 

Ashley Mitchell, a third-year law student and part-time political science graduate student, has been selected as Southern University’s Thurgood Marshall College Fund Student Ambassador.

 

As Student Ambassador, Mitchell will represent Southern University Law Center (SULC) and SU Baton Rouge campus at all Thurgood Marshall events and conferences.  Also she is assigned to speak with Louisiana state and Congressional elected officials about the importance of the Thurgood Marshall College fund and encourage them to continue to support the fund and Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

 

Mitchell is the president of the SULC chapter of National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) as well as the sub- regional director of the Southern Region of NBLSA. She is the vice president of the Sports and Entertainment Law Association. She is employed as a law clerk for the Louisiana State Senate in the Chief of Staff’s office and serves as a research assistant for SULC Office of Continuing Legal Education and Alumni Affairs.  Mitchell is a certified mediator and is a student-attorney in the Mediation Clinic.

 

The Shreveport, Louisiana, native earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Louisiana State University in 2007. Upon completing her Juris Doctorate and master’s degree in May 2011, Mitchell plans to continue working in the governmental arena and freelancing in the entertainment industry.
