Hardy Wins Second Prize in ASCAP’s Burkan Copyright Competition

Third-year student Darnell C. Hardy of Grand Coteau, Louisiana, has won the $259 Second Prize in the SULC Nathan Burkan Memorial Competition with the winning essay, “Legacy of the DMCA: Issues of Fair Use, Safe, Harbor, and Proposed Solutions.”

The Nathan Burkan Memorial Competition is sponsored annually by the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) in memory of ASCAP’s first General Counsel who died in 1936.  The awards, designed to stimulate interest in the field of copyright law, have been a tradition at ASCAP since 1938.

Hardy is scheduled to graduate in 2009 from Southern University Law Center, where he was a member of the Criminal Law Society.  He is also a graduate from Xavier University of Louisiana.  Hardy is the son of Paula and Danny Hardy, Sr., of Grand Coteau.
