Hardy
Wins Second Prize in ASCAP’s Burkan
Copyright Competition
Third-year student Darnell C. Hardy of
Grand Coteau, Louisiana, has won the
$259 Second Prize in the SULC Nathan
Burkan Memorial Competition with the
winning essay, “Legacy of the DMCA:
Issues of Fair Use, Safe, Harbor, and
Proposed Solutions.”
The Nathan Burkan Memorial Competition
is sponsored annually by the American
Society of Composers, Authors and
Publishers (ASCAP) in memory of ASCAP’s
first General Counsel who died in 1936.
The awards, designed to stimulate
interest in the field of copyright law,
have been a tradition at ASCAP since
1938.
Hardy is scheduled to graduate in 2009
from Southern University Law Center,
where he was a member of the Criminal
Law Society. He is also a graduate from
Xavier University of Louisiana. Hardy
is the son of Paula and Danny Hardy,
Sr., of Grand Coteau.
