2015 New Student Orientation

The program has been designed to help you transition into the law school environment. The day will begin August 13 at 8:00 am, with continental breakfast, a photo session for the school directory and mini-informational sessions to help explain various aspects of the law school. Interim Chancellor John Pierre and the President of the Student Bar Association, Patrick Harrington, will greet you.
The day will continue with an introduction to professionalism by the Louisiana State Bar Association Committee on the Profession. An Associate Justice of the Louisiana Supreme Court and the President of the Louisiana State Bar Association will make presentations. Small break out groups, including legal practitioners, will discuss the importance of professionalism in the practice of law.
After lunch, students will take the oath of professionalism and will receive additional information concerning academic policies, career counseling and financial aid. Students will return Friday morning and will discuss issues related to the school honor code, student organizations and other aspects of student life.
An 1-L faculty panel will discuss classroom expectations and have a general interchange concerning the student’s contribution to a successful and dynamic law school culture. After lunch students will break into small sessions to begin working on academic skills development.
An initial assessment will be done, as well as a final assessment at the conclusion of the sessions on Thursday, August 20, 2015. Classes will be held on Friday, August 21, 2015, and students will be expected to be prepared. Orientation is mandatory for all students and will be used as the basis for a portion of your Legal Writing and Analysis grade.
The program will begin Thursday August 13 at 5:00 pm, with registration, a photo session for the school directory and a reception. The evening will begin with greetings from the Chancellor and the Student Bar Association President. Students will take the oath of professionalism and receive additional information on academic policies, career counseling and financial aid. A session on professionalism sponsored by the Louisiana State Bar Association Committee on the Profession will be conducted.
Students will return Saturday morning, August 15, 2015, to receive additional information and begin working on academic skills development. An initial assessment will be done on August 15 and a final assessment will follow at the conclusion of the sessions on Thursday, August 20, 2015. Orientation is mandatory for all students and will be used as the basis for a portion of your Legal Writing and Analysis grade.
Class schedules are prepared through the Records and Registration Department and are created for 1-L students automatically. To access your account on the school’s website, click on the “Banner” tab at the top right side of the home page and use your “S” number to log in. The default password for your account is your birthday (000000). The booklist should be available soon.
