Demetris Powell
Ms. Powell has over 20 years of administrative experience in the public sector and 10 years of academic experience in higher education. She joined the Southern University Law Center in January 2023, as an Analyst for Institutional Effectiveness for the Office of Institutional Accountability and Accreditation. Ms. Powell strives to improve the performance of the Law Center by taking actionable steps to ensure that all external reporting mandates are met through the development and execution of policies and procedures that support its mission. Ms. Powell is responsible for reviewing, researching, and processing data related to institutional compliance, including the development of a comprehensive, integrated system of data accountability collection, research, assessment, evaluation, and reporting that supports strategic, academic, and operational planning.
Ms. Powell holds a master’s degree in business administration and 18 graduate hours in historical studies. She has served as the Assistant to the Chairman of Sociology at Southern University and A & M College for 10 years. During her tenure, she provided strategic guidance and advisement to the students in the department. Her research interests include organizational theory, diversity, inclusion, research analysis and assessment, project management, communications, the Sociology of Black Americans, and the works of W.E.B. Dubois.
Ms. Powell earned her Bachelor of Science and Master of Business Administration degrees at the University of Phoenix, Phoenix, AZ. She has earned several Quality Matter training certificates in assessments including Writing Measurable Learning Objectives Assessment and Measurement of Learning and Instructional materials for Student Engagement Learner Activities and Interaction. She is an active member of the faith-based non-profit organization, Poplar Grove Helping Other People Endure (PG HOPE) established in 2001 with the sole purpose of touching the lives of the people in the community one day at a time by bringing about awareness of healthy choices of living. She is a native of Port Allen, Louisiana, and an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. since 2021.
