SULC Launches Recovery Journey Fundraiser for Injured Alumnus Averil Sanders
Southern University Law Center recently launched the Averil Sanders Recovery Journey Fund to support Law Center alumnus Attorney Averil Sanders following a recent accident. This initiative invites the community to contribute towards his medical, rehabilitation, and recovery-related needs as he works toward full restoration. Supporters are also encouraged share words of comfort to offer strength and hope during his healing journey.
Averil Sanders, Jr., Esq., is a licensed Louisiana attorney and founder of The A. Sanders, Jr. Law Group, LLC, based in Baton Rouge, LA.
Before pursuing his lifelong dream of practicing law, Mr. Sanders spent 19 years in education as a teacher and school leader, from 1999 to 2019. He began his career as a teacher and Dean of Students in the Orleans Parish School System, serving for five years. His commitment to student success and strong stakeholder relationships propelled him into leadership as an assistant principal with the Algiers Charter Schools Association in 2006. Over the years, he served as a turnaround principal at several schools, including Glen Oaks Middle Charter School, John McDonogh High School, Robert E. Lee High School, Southern University Laboratory School, and Smothers Academy Charter School.
Mr. Sanders earned his high school diploma from McDonogh 35 Senior High School (1994), a Bachelor of Science in English Education from Grambling State University (1998), a Master of Education in School Leadership from the University of New Orleans (2005), and a Juris Doctor from Southern University Law Center (2016). He was admitted to the Louisiana State Bar in December 2018, marking the culmination of his transition from education to law.
Attorney Sanders attributes his success and balance to his faith, his mother, and the unwavering support of his family. Away from the courtroom, he values time with his wife, two daughters, two sons, and one grandson, who remain central to his life and inspiration.
By standing with him now, we honor the resilience, service, and strength he has consistently shown as a cherished member of our SULC family.
