Alumnus Timothy Hardy to Deliver Fall 2025 Commencement Address
Southern University Law Center (SULC) is honored to announce that prominent alumnus and environmental law leader Timothy Hardy will deliver the commencement address at this year's graduation ceremony. The Fall Commencement ceremony will take place on Saturday, January 24, beginning at 10 a.m. in the Smith-Brown Memorial Union on the Southern University Baton Rouge campus.
A native of Shreveport, Hardy is currently a partner in the Baton Rouge office of Breazeale, Sachse & Wilson, L.L.P., where he practices in the firm’s Environmental Law group. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor of Law at SULC, teaching Environmental Law for more than 25 years.
Hardy also holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry and was named a Distinguished Alumnus by the Southern University Department of Chemistry in 2008. He was also named a Distinguished Alumnus by SULC in 2009 and was named to the SULC Hall of Fame in 2012.
His widespread public service includes roles as the top advisor on environmental affairs for former Louisiana governor Buddy Roemer, Assistant Secretary for the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, and as a Division Director for the Louisiana Department of Justice. Additionally, he has served on six Louisiana gubernatorial transition teams for Democratic and Republican governors.
In 2020, Hardy was appointed by Governor John Bel Edwards to the Governor's Climate Initiatives Task Force, where he served as co-chair of the Manufacturing and Industry Committee, and as a member of the Legal Advisory Group.
He currently serves on the Board of Supervisors for the Louisiana Community & Technical College System, a position he has served on since 2010. He also is a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Community College Trustees, an education organization of governing boards, representing more than 6,500 elected and appointed trustees who govern over 1,200 community and technical colleges in the United States.
Hardy has also been ranked by Chambers USA: America's Leading Business Lawyers for Louisiana in Environment in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2025, and was selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America since 2024, solidifying him as a nationwide renowned legal professional.
