SULC Celebrate Alumni Achievements at 2026 Alumni Round-Up

Southern University Law Center (SULC) hosted its annual Alumni & Friends Round-Up from April 8-11, 2026. The multi-day celebration honored the outstanding achievements and dedication of SULC alumni who continue to make meaningful contributions to the legal profession.
Throughout the week, SULC recognized distinguished graduates for their professional accomplishments and unwavering commitment to justice, community, and service. The Round-Up featured an exciting lineup of events and networking opportunities.
On Wednesday, April 8, Round-Up week began with a special ceremony dedicating the SULC Courtyard in honor of J. Ashley Mitchell-Carter (’11). The ceremony brought together the Law Center community to celebrate her lasting impact and contributions.
On Thursday, April 9, the Law Center hosted a special Professional Student Workshop featuring members of the Class of 1996 as panelists. The discussion, “Professional Opportunities and Doors Opened as a Result of the SULC Law Degree, “highlighted their career journeys and offered valuable insights into the wide range of paths within the legal profession.
Students participated in engaging discussions, networking opportunities, and skill-building activities, creating a meaningful space to explore potential career paths and connect with mentors who have successfully navigated the legal field.
The Judicial Wall of Fame Unveiling Ceremony took place on Thursday evening, honoring distinguished alumni who have served with honor and integrity on the bench. The 2026 inductees were: Honorable Lakeisha N. Jefferson ’02; Honorable Robbins S. Graham ’87; Honorable Sandra Jackson ’80.
Following the ceremony, attendees gathered for the Distinguished Alumni & Friends Reception at the River Terrace of the Shaw Center for the Arts. This event recognized alumni who have made exceptional contributions to the Law Center, their communities, and the legal profession. Honorees included: Dr. Anthony Boyce Canada ’87; Bridget Biagas ’06; Michael B. Victorian ’14; Ross Leblanc ’09; Susan East Nelson ’14; Walter Gabriel ’09.
On Friday, April 10, the excitement moved to the greens of Copper Mill Golf Course for the Chancellor’s Annual Scramble Golf Tournament. Alumni and friends showcased their skills while enjoying a lively morning of friendly competition, making a memorable start to the day’s events.
A Continuing Legal Education (CLE) seminar also took place on Friday. The Law Center welcomed Southern University therapist Charnel Jackson, who led a powerful discussion on lawyer well-being and mental health.
During the seminar, attendees heard remarks from Louisiana’s appellate courts, including Judge Marcus Hunter and Judge Sharon Wilson. Additional sessions covered ethics, professionalism, and other key legal topics, with the series concluding on Saturday morning.
On Friday evening, Law Center alumni gathered in the SULC Atrium for their class reunions meet and greet. The atmosphere allowed classmates to reconnect and reflect on their time and shared experience at the Law Center.
The Alumni Round-Up celebration closed out on Saturday, April 11, with the prestigious Alumni Hall of Fame Gala at the Renaissance Hotel in Baton Rouge. The evening honored an elite group of alumni who have left an impact on the legal landscape, their communities, and beyond. This year’s inductees included: Brandy Owens Domengeaux ’05; Deidre Deculus Robert ’00; Kirk A. Guidry, Sr. ’91; Michael Jackson ’91; Ron Austin ’95; Roderick A. James ’03; Shane D. Williams ’05; Vernon P. Thomas ’79(Posthumously).
The 2026 Alumni and Friends Round-Up highlighted both individual accomplishments and the Law Center’s longstanding tradition of excellence, while also showcasing the strength of its engaged and supportive alumni network. As SULC continues to prepare the next generation of legal leaders, this meaningful tradition remains a lasting source of pride and inspiration.
