McKnight is legislative aide for newly seated Louisiana State Senator

Third-year law student Robert McKnight, 2016-17 editor-in-chief of the Journal of Race, Gender & Poverty, is legislative aide for Louisiana State Senator Troy Carter Sr.
Senator Carter was sworn in as the first African-American Louisiana state senator for District 7 on January 11, 2016, and was elected to serve as the Senate Democratic Caucus chairman.
“I am so happy to have selected one of Southern University Law Center’s best and brightest to serve as my legislative aide. Robert has been an incredible addition to my Senate staff!” Senator Carter said.
The newly seated senator’s top priorities include improving the state’s educational system, investing in infrastructure, supporting economic development, and promoting the public safety and health and welfare of every citizen.
“I learned firsthand the mechanics of the legislative process and am grateful to have worked with such a great leader,” McKnight said of his work with Senator Carter during the 2016 Legislative Session.
“I had the opportunity to work on amendments and assisted the senator on drafting legislation and on legal matters pertaining to the constitutionality of proposed legislation,” he added.
McKnight is working with Senator Carter during the 2016 Second Extraordinary Legislative Session, which began June 7 and is expected to run no later than June 23, 2016.
