Prof. Allen-Bell presents race and social justice paper at regional law schools conference
Prof. Angela Allen-Bell presented her paper titled “Helping a Pro-Life State Understand What it Means to Make All Lives Matters” during the 2016 conference of the Southeastern Association of Law Schools in Amelia Island, Florida.
Allen-Bell’s paper was part of a workshop on criminal law, criminal procedure, and immigration law that took place on August 4, 2016. The overall program was aimed at helping new scholars develop and refine their research projects with help from other experts in the field. Prof. J. D. King of Washington and Lee University School of Law was moderator.
As part of the workshop each presenter was assigned a senior scholar in the area to review the paper and provide feedback. Prof. William Berry of the University of Mississippi School of Law was assigned as the reviewer for Prof. Allen-Bell. Other presenters and their reviewers were Profs. Lauren Aronson of LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center, reviewed by Valena Beety of West Virginia University College of Law; Janet Moore of University of Cincinnati College of Law/Ellen Podgor of Stetson University College of Law; and Joy Radice of the University of Tennessee College of Law/Prof. Andrew Wright of Savannah Law School.
Allen-Bell is an associate professor of legal writing and analysis at the Southern University Law Center, where she holds the B.K. Agnihotri Endowed Professorship. Her research focuses on civil rights, restorative justice, social justice, and the interplay between race and justice. She has the distinction of having been selected for membership in the National Black Lawyers-Top 100, an invitation-only organization.
In addition to being a recurrent speaker in the community, as well as in the legal arena, Prof. Allen-Bell is frequently quoted and interviewed by local, national, and international media. She has twice submitted written testimony to the United States Senate’s Judiciary Committee on the Constitution and has served as an expert reviewer of solitary confinement teaching materials that are available through the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS).
