Prof. Odinet gives presentation on bankruptcy and property law at CSLSA Conference
Prof. Chris Odinet gave a presentation on the interaction of property law and public bankruptcy at the Central States Law Schools Association Conference (CSLSA) on September 23-24, 2016, at the University of North Dakota School of Law.
The CSLSA is a regional collaboration of law schools that annually hosts a conference where faculty can present their work-in-progress or completed papers and receive valuable feedback and critique. Odinet served as the association’s secretary this past year and will serve as its vice president in 2017.
“I was so happy to have been able to present this paper at CSLSA,” said Odinet. “I wrote about the way the U.S. Supreme Court has interpreted the Takings Clause and the Bankruptcy Clause of the U.S. Constitution, and in the paper I propose an alternative approach, to be used specifically when dealing with the insolvency proceedings of cities and local governments.”
Odinet’s article, titled Of Progressive Property and Public Debt, is forthcoming in the Wake Forest Law Review, a top 50 national legal journal.
Odinet is an assistant professor of law and the Horatio C. Thompson Endowed Professor at the Southern University Law Center. His scholarship is focused on consumer protection, commercial law, and real estate. He is a frequent speaker on issues related to mortgage finance, real estate, and consumer financial protection. He is currently serving as a 2016-18 Louisiana Bar Foundation Scholar-in-Residence and recently was appointed as an inaugural Faculty Scholar of the American College of Real Estate Lawyers.
