Prof. Odinet gives real estate finance presentation to ABA property lawyers

Prof. Chris Odinet gave a presentation to property lawyers from across the country at the spring symposium of the American Bar Association’s Section of Real Property, Trust, and Estate Law, Friday, May 13, 2016 in Boston, Masschusetts. Odinet has been a fellow of the ABA section since 2014.
His presentation focused on the legal aspects of collateralizing the rights of a declarant/developer in common interest communities, such as condominium developments and planned communities. Prof. Odinet noted that lenders are requiring developers to grant security interests in, among other things, control rights over common interest community associations. However, he said the status of such rights is mixed and therefore not easily covered by one area of secured transactions law or another.
The substance of his presentation will appear in an article, co-authored with local attorney and former SULC adjunct professor Randy Roussel of Phelps Dunbar, LLP, to be published in the July/August issue of Probate & Property. Odinet was joined on the symposium panel by professors from the law schools of Wake Forest University, Washburn University, and the University of Missouri.
