Michael L. Harris

Professor Harris is a native of Washington D.C., earning a Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting Southern University A&M College 1984, Juris Doctorate at Southern University Law Center 1987 and Louisiana State Bar Association - Mediation Certification in 2014.
Harris worked with the United States Treasury Department, Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals, Louisiana Department of Labor and Baton Rouge Community College. His governmental career spanned over 27 years prior him to joining the faculty at Southern University. Admitted to practice in the U.S. 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Louisiana. He has more than 35 years of legal experience in a wide range of areas, including administrative law, attorney disciplinary actions, civil litigation, civil service (employment and labor), criminal litigation, education discrimination (Section 504 Rehabilitation Act), health care (Medicaid/Medicare), labor and employment discrimination (EEOC), and tax litigation.
Courses: Administrative Law, Basic Civil Procedure, Conflict of Laws, Contracts, Evidence, Law Office Practice, Louisiana Civil Procedure, Professional Responsibility, and Torts.
Additionally, he has served as a guest lecturer to the Louisiana Trial Lawyers Association (Louisiana Association for Justice) and has previously served as a hearing committee member with the Louisiana Attorney Disciplinary Board for 8 years.
