Ryan K. Thompson

Ryan K.Thompson was born in Birmingham, Alabama, but later moved to Inglewood, California. He attended Inglewood High School and earned his high school diploma from Dominguez High School in Compton, California. He earned an athletic scholarship to Southern Utah University (SUU), in Cedar City Utah. While at SUU he helped found the Black Student Association and a colony of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated. He graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice, and a minor in Sociology. Upon returning to Inglewood, California, Ryan attended Rio Hondo College to earn his Peace Officer Standards and Training Certificate. He also holds a Master of Public Health in Urban Health Disparities from Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science.
Prior to becoming an attorney, Ryan decided that he would have a social contract with Black, poor and oppressed communities around the world. That social contract has lead Ryan to hold a variety of roles throughout his life. Those roles include: serving as an advocate and advisor to the California Department of Children and Family Services (through a grant from the Obama Administration), leading mobilizers and organizers for the removal of a daycare located on a former ExxonMobil petroleum tank farm, and acting as Deputy Campaign Manager and advisor for Louisiana 2nd Congressional District candidates. Currently, Ryan is a Section Lead at the Office of the Public Defender in East Baton Rouge, and the Director of the Thompson Justice Institute, LLC.
