Averil Sanders

Averil Sanders, Jr. is a Louisiana attorney who intertwines skill, passion and personal experience to provide his clients with legal representation. Although pursuing justice for his clients is the realization of a lifelong dream, Attorney Sanders credits his faith, his immediate family and his mother for providing him with the balance necessary to successfully practice law and lead a fulfilling life away from the court. Attorney Sanders’ immediate family includes his wife, two daughters, two sons and one grandson. His mother’s life experiences and commitment to his success was especially impactful on his personal life and career. Early in his childhood, he absorbed her love, sacrifice, determination and commitment to transcendence of circumstances through education, thus igniting his lifelong love of learning and passion for reaching out to those in need. His mother’s dream deferred and his steadfast desire to transition his circumstances to honor her personal sacrifice pushed him to pursue the highest of heights of academia. Mr. Sanders’ education includes earning a high school diploma from McDonogh #35 Senior High School in May of 1994; a Bachelor’s of Science in English Education from Grambling State University awarded in December of 1998; a Masters of Education in School Leadership from the University of New Orleans awarded in May of 2005; and a Jurist Doctorate from the Southern University Law Center awarded in December of 2016. In addition to his academic credentials, Mr. Sanders was admitted to the Louisiana State Bar on December 17, 2018.
Attorney Sanders has exuded a passion for serving those in need. Prior to fulfiling his childhood dream of becoming an attorney, Mr. Sanders worked 19 years as a Louisiana teacher and school leader. Mr. Sanders’s career in education began in April of 1999 and lasted until he started his law practice in January of 2019. His education career began with his service as a teacher and Dean of Students with the Orleans Parish School System for five years. As a result of dedication to those he served, his ability to foster strong relationships with stakeholders, and his ability to push students academically, Mr. Sanders’ career reached new heights when he transitioned into school leadership when he became an assistant principal with the Algiers Charter Schools association in July of 2006. Mr. Sanders has also served as a turnaround principal of Glen Oaks Middle Charter School, John McDonogh High School, Robert E. Lee High School, Southern University Laboratory School, and Smothers Academy Charter School.
