Charletta A. Fortson is Assistant Professor and Director of Common Law Bar Prep. In her capacity as Director of Common Law Bar Prep, she is responsible for developing and managing bar preparation programs for students preparing to sit for exams in common law jurisdictions. She also manages data collection for ABA reporting. Additionally, in this role she teaches Common Law Bar Prep courses and coordinates supplemental bar prep programs.
As Assistant Professor, Mrs. Fortson primarily teaches Contracts and Louisiana Obligations. As a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP-US), she teaches one of the Law and Technology courses that focuses on Cybersecurity and Data Privacy.
Prior to joining Southern University Law Center, Attorney Fortson was a solo practitioner at A Fortson Law Firm, LLC, where she assisted small businesses with entity formation, business development, and contract drafting and reviews, and represented small businesses in contract disputes. Since joining the Law Center, Mrs. Fortson continues to work in the areas of technology to improve business efficiency and small business development. Recently, she was a Co-Principal Investigator in securing a grant to develop a cybersecurity certification program as a part of Southern University’s undergraduate programs. Additionally, she was the Principal Investigator for a grant that was awarded from the Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) to establish the only Minority Business Development Center (MBDC) in the state of Louisiana; the only MBDC to be operated by an HBCU. The MBDC works with minority-owned businesses to provide technical training for business development and to help them build capacity.
