Dominique Phillips

Dominique Phillips is from Daytona Beach, FL. She was born in Marquette, Michigan in 1990 because her father was an Air Force member stationed there. Dominique predominately grew up in Florida. She went to Atlantic High School and was a member of the school’s Academy of Law and Government. The Academy provided required courses on government and law designed to teach the students about the in-and-outs of government and the practice of law. Here, Dominique regularly volunteered for juvenile justice court, moot court, and mock trial competitions.
Upon graduating high school in 2008, Dominique followed the path of her father and joined the United States Air Force at age 18. She worked as a Healthcare Administration Technician. Throughout her time in service, Dominique enjoyed working in several special positions. She began working in the Basic Training Medical Clinic, where all the basic trainees were seen for care. There she worked in an office that coordinated specialty appointments for trainees, either on base or off base. She also briefed and instructed all incoming trainee flights on how to initially fill out their medical and Dental records, and then maintained those records in the medical filing room.
In 2011, Dominique was tasked to deploy to Balad Air Base, in Iraq, for 6 months. While there she worked in the Patient Admission Department. Some of her primary duties consisted of unloading injured persons from a medical evacuation helicopter, rolling them into the emergency room on a gurney and getting them registered in the system for care.
In 2013, Dominique interviewed and was selected by executive members of Wilford Hall Medical Center to serve as a member of the Commander’s Action Group (CAG). The CAG was responsible fulfilling administrative duties, coordinating the meetings and scheduling appointments for the Commander, who was a 2-Star General. She would curate and operate the slides, kept meeting minutes, and also maintained the executive supply budget/inventory. While working as a CAG member, Dominique was handpicked to present mission briefs for high ranking military, political, and civilian dignitaries who would come and visit the Medical Center. Always receiving high praise for her presentations, she was complemented and coined by a 4-Star, 2-Star and 1-Star General all on separate occasions.
After serving 8 ½ years, Dominique was medically retired from the Air Force due to injuries in 2017. In 2018, Dominique decided to follow her life long dream of becoming an attorney and applied for Law School. She was accepted by Southern University Law Center, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and began matriculation August 2018.
During her first summer break in 2019, Dominique was selected to participate as an intern with the Institute for the Future of Law Practice (IFLP). IFLP’s mission is to create “T-Shaped” lawyers by supplementing their traditional law school education and training with complementary skills in Data Analytics, Technology, Business, Design Thinking, and Process Management. After attending IFLP’s 3-week bootcamp, she interviewed and was hired to be an intern with a large law firm, Kean Miller LLP, for 10 weeks. Working directly under the firm’s executive staff, she utilized methods and concepts learned in the IFLP bootcamp to complete several tasks aimed at streamlining and improving their business operations in an effort to drive efficiency and reduce costs.
Over the course of her professional life, Dominique has made time to engage with the community and volunteer with several organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, Big Brothers Big Sisters, The Fisher House, The American Red Cross, Wounded Warriors, and various food banks and soup kitchens. Dominique has played tennis since the age of 9, so she enjoys playing in her spare time. Though she sha no family of her own, Family means the most to her. She spends as much time as she can with her immediate and extended family.
Dominique received an Associate of Arts degree in Healthcare Management from the Community College of the Air Force in 2012. She attended Ashford University, online, and graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology, Cum Laude. Both lower degrees were accomplished while Dominique was working Active Duty Full-time, and even while on deployment. She will be graduating from Southern University Law Center May 2021, and plans to sit for the July 2021 Uniform Bar Exam in Texas.
