Kiara Carnes

Kiara Carnes is a Registered Nurse, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), and co-owner of Maternal Love. She was born and raised here in Baton Rouge, LA. As a child, she was always fascinated by pregnancy and everything baby related and knew that she wanted to pursue a career as a nurse, but specifically a NICU nurse. In 2013, she graduated from Southern University and A&M College with her Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing. 

For the past 9 years, Kiara has been working with mothers and babies in the hospital. She started out working on a Mother/Baby Unit taking care of moms and babies in the immediate postpartum period which she absolutely loved. A few years later, she began working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) taking care of sick and premature babies. After working in the NICU and on the Mother/Baby Unit, she realized that there are so many moms that still need support with breastfeeding when they go home. As a result, she began her journey of obtaining her IBCLC certification and started Maternal Love with her business partner and best friend, Ashaki. 

Kiara finds it very rewarding to help families meet their feeding goals and give mothers the support to do so. Her passion is educating parents and empowering them to make the best decision for their family. Louisiana has one of the lowest rates of breastfeeding and Kiara is focused on helping to improve that, one family at a time.
