Overview: The Heirs' Property Institute aims to eliminate obstacles faced by marginalized communities as the work to manage and maintain property inherited after the loss of a loved one. By offering pro bono legal services and educational seminars, the HPI reaffirms SULC’s well-established stance as an institution of access and opportunity by helping people who face barriers empowers individuals to secure their rightful inheritance and to promote sustainable property ownership. Our initiatives also provide invaluable experiential learning opportunities for law students, fostering a commitment to social justice within the legal profession.
Mission: Through the Office of Innovation and Strategic Partnerships and Initiatives, the Heirs' Property Institute seeks to reduce the barrier to various legal issues that arise from inherited property not being properly passed from the decedent to heirs by providing legal services and filing fees for the creation of wills and preparation of succession pleadings.
Vision: The Heirs' Property Institute envisions a future where all individuals, regardless of their background, have equitable access to legal resources that empower them to maintain and inherit property without barriers. Through education and advocacy, we strive to eliminate the wealth gap exacerbated by inadequate legal representation and knowledge.
