Sam Perkins

Sam Perkins is a retired NBA professional basketball player, also known by the nicknames "Sleepy Sam" and "Big Smooth." He attended and graduated with a degree in Communications from the University of North Carolina, won a NCAA championship against Georgetown, Gold Medal winner in the 1984 LA Summer Olympics. He then played in the NBA from 1984 to 2002(17 years) Dallas Mavericks, Los Angeles Lakers, Seattle SuperSonics and Indiana Pacers. Drafted 1st round 4th overall by the Dallas Mavericks and made all rookie team. Played 6 seasons with the Mavs avg. 17.7pts. a game and moved on as a free agent with the Los Angeles Lakers in 1991. Played along side with Magic Johnson and ex teammate James Worthy. Played 4 seasons in LA avg.16.6 pts ...went to the finals in 1991 against the Chicago Bulls Played 6 seasons with the Seattle Supersonics went to NBA Finals 1996 and retired with the Indiana Pacers coached by Larry Bird in 2000 & went to NBA Finals against the Los Angeles Lakers. Became Vice President of Player Development in 2007 and currently a Consultant with the NBA with Marketing & Events and Board Member of the National Basketball Retired Players Association and a global Ambassador for Special Olympics. Also a Kappa of Ft Worth Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. Inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame 2018 Kansas City,Missouri.
