Samantha Thompson currently serves as the Director of Institutional Accountability and Professional Development in the Office of Institutional Accountability and Accreditation at the Southern University Law Center (SULC). She is an alumna of Southern University and A & M College and joined SULC in 2020. Dr. Thompson completed her postdoctoral appointment at Oak Ridge Associated Universities (ORAU) and the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). During her postdoctoral research, Dr. Thompson successfully proposed, co-created, and collaboratively organized the inaugural Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSIs) Research Collaboration Workshop at Oak Ridge National Laboratory with ORNL’s Office of Research Excellence (ORE) and the Diversity and International Division in 2019.
As a member of the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Accountability and Accreditation’s team, she is responsible for ensuring that full-time and part-time faculty fulfill their responsibilities to Southern University Law Center (SULC) and comply with the American Bar Association (ABA) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Standards, as well as the Association of American Law Schools (AALS) Bylaws. In addition, Dr. Thompson works closely with the Vice Chancellor for Institutional Accountability &Accreditation to implement institutional and nonacademic unit-specific best practices to ensure ABA, SACSCOC, and AALS compliance.
Dr. Thompson has earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management, a Master of Business Administration (MBA), a Master of Public Administration (MPA), and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Public Policy from Southern University A&M College. Her major research interests encompass the areas of higher education accreditation, international and comparative higher education, internationalization of education, Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), public policy, crisis management, and education policy research. She currently serves as a peer reviewer and copy editor for several peer-reviewed academic journals and international conferences. Dr. Thompson is a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the American Association of University Women, and the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management.
