Did You Know? SULC leads Louisiana in district judicial representation

Research conducted by Professor Gail Stephenson, with the help of research assistant L. Christine Tillman, reveals that as of January 1, 2021, more judges on the district court bench in Louisiana graduated from Southern University Law Center than from any other law school. Louisiana has 214 district court judges. Seventy-one of those judges, or 33%, graduated from SULC.
In comparison, Louisiana State University grads hold 68 district court seats, Loyola grads hold 46, and Tulane grads hold 14. The remaining 15 seats are held by graduates of out-of-state law schools. SULC grads also hold 10 of the 53 intermediate appellate court seats in Louisiana. Among those recently elected are Judge Marcus Hunter on the Louisiana Second Circuit Court of Appeal in Shreveport and Judges Eboni Johnson Rose and Will Jorden in the 19th Judicial District Court in Baton Rouge.
