Louis A. Berry Institute for Civil Rights and Justice at SULC hosts first annual meeting of the Juvenile Justice Reform Act Implementation Commission
The Juvenile Justice Reform Act Implementation Commission (JJRAIC) held its first meeting of the year, organized by staff and interns from the Southern University Law Center’s (SULC) Louis A. Berry Institute for Civil Rights and Justice. The meeting provided a valuable forum for community members, justice advocates, and media to engage with data and insights from youth, families, and experts on Louisiana’s juvenile justice system.
The Louis A. Berry Institute staff presented a comprehensive three-year strategic plan for the commission’s review, focusing on best practices to create a safer and more effective juvenile justice system for Louisiana. The strategic plan emphasizes data-driven approaches, aiming to improve public safety outcomes by aligning policies and services with the unique needs of youth in the justice system.
This meeting represented a renewed effort to build a system centered on rehabilitation and community-based support, aimed at helping young people achieve positive outcomes while enhancing community safety.
