Southern University Law Center Receives $798,500 Investment from the Louisiana Bar Foundation to Strengthen Clinical Legal Education
The Southern University Law Center (SULC) has received a groundbreaking $798,500 investment from the Louisiana Bar Foundation (LBF) to advance its clinical legal education (CLE) program. The presentation was made at the Board of Supervisors Meeting on October 17, by Deidre Deculus Robert, a 2000 SULC graduate and past President of the Louisiana Bar Foundation (2023-2024).
This funding marks a significant step in expanding opportunities for hands-on legal training and advancing access to justice in Louisiana. The investment is part of the LBF's School Project, launched in 2023 to strengthen the pathway of public service attorneys and broaden access to civil legal aid across the state.
Through this initiative, LBF is partnering with all four Louisiana law schools to support legal education and service programs:
● Southern University Law Center – Clinical Legal Fellowships (launching Fall 2025)
● Loyola University New Orleans College of Law – Child Welfare & Domestic Violence Clinic (launched Fall 2024)
● LSU Paul M. Hebert Law Center – Program development underway
● Tulane University Law School – Launching next year
This investment spotlights the shared commitment of the Louisiana Bar Foundation and Southern University Law Center to promote equity, service, and access to justice throughout Louisiana.
