Brumfield joins Airport Minority Advisory Council as president and CEO

Krystal J. Brumfield, ’07, has been named the president/CEO of the Airport Minority Advisory Council headquartered in Alexandria, Virginia.
Brumfield, who was recognized as a 2015 SULC Distinguished Alumna during the annual Alumni Round-Up, formerly served as the vice president and chief operating officer of the DC Chamber of Commerce, where she provided leadership to the chamber’s strategic planning process and implemented new programmatic strategic initiatives.
“The Airport Minority Advisory Council (AMAC) is a nonprofit dedicated to increasing contracting opportunities for minority-owned and women-owned businesses in the aviation industry,” Brumfield said.
“We work closely with the Federal Aviation Association (FAA) to improve and expand the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) program in the U.S. Department of Transportation,” she said. “We also lobby the U.S. Congress.”
Brumfield previously worked as tax and procurement counsel for the United States Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, chaired by Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA). Before joining the committee, the Amite, Louisiana, native worked as a staff attorney at the Louisiana Department of Revenue, where she regularly represented the state before Louisiana trial courts and the Board of Tax Appeals.
In addition to earning a Juris Doctorate from SULC, this Southern University and A&M College accounting graduate earned a Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Florida Levin College of Law.
Attorney Brumfield frequently travels to East and Southern Africa to teach legislative drafting at the International Law Institute – African Centre for Legal Excellence. She has also traveled to the Republic of China (Taiwan) as part of a U.S. Congressional Staff Delegation. While there, she met with country officials to discuss matters in tax, trade, commerce, transportation, and finance. Brumfield is scheduled to travel to Israel and Cameroon later this year to meet with respective country officials.
Brumfield is a member of Secretary Hillary Clinton’s Hillary for America Campaign: Small Business Working Group.
In 2010, Brumfield received the National, Southwest Region, and Louisiana TRIO Achiever Awards for her participation in Education Talent Search, Classic Upward Bound, and the Ronald E. McNair programs while in high school and college. The TRIO Achiever Award is given to alumni who are in high stature within their profession, have received recognition for outstanding academic achievement, and have made significant civic, community, or professional contributions.
In her spare time, Brumfield enjoys playing golf and tennis; horseback riding; visiting museums; attending musical, ballet, and theatrical performances; and traveling.
