Professor Angela Allen-Bell and SULC Students Share Perspectives on Justice and Faith at Angola
Southern University Law Center (SULC) Professor Angela A. Allen-Bell and four SULC students recently participated in an engaging panel at the Islamic Society’s Gala held inside the Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola. The event brought together justice-impacted individuals and guests for a day of dialogue centered on faith, accountability, and the pursuit of justice.
Professor Allen-Bell, known for her extensive work in criminal justice reform and advocacy, led the panel discussion alongside Law Center students Veronica Jackson, Asia Hope, Lyndsi Felder, and Shamari Rucker. Each presenter explored the intersection of biblical wisdom and legal principles, offering unique perspectives on various aspects of the justice system.
“Engaging in dialogue with those directly impacted by the justice system reminds us that true justice must be rooted in both accountability and compassion,” says Allen-Bell. “When we blend biblical wisdom with legal principles, we open the door to a more humane and restorative approach to justice.”
The presentations included:
- Professor Angela A. Allen-Bell: Juries and Biblical Wisdom on Decision-Making
- Veronica Jackson: Grand Juries and Biblical Wisdom on the Quest for Justice
- Asia Hope: Post-Conviction Updates and Biblical Wisdom on Accountability
- Lyndsi Felder: Reentry and Biblical Wisdom on Eternal Life
- Shamari Rucker: The Use of Social Media Posts During Trials and Biblical Wisdom on Evidence of Guilt
The presentations sparked meaningful conversations on fairness, redemption, and the human elements of justice.
