Robert Furnier

Visiting Professor
Professor Furnier has practiced law for 38 years in firms of all sizes with a national practice focusing on complex litigation. During his career, he has represented individuals, corporations, and governmental entities in matters implicating many areas of the law, including antitrust, banking, bankruptcy, class actions, environmental, insurance coverage, mass tort, medical devices and malpractice, products liability, and sports. Along the way, he has managed law firms and participated in law firm leadership.
During his academic career, Professor Furnier has developed and taught a curriculum of ten live and online courses relating to the impact of technology on the practice of law and upon the law itself. His courses have explored ever-emerging technologies—like artificial intelligence, blockchain, the internet of things (IoT), machine learning, and virtual and augmented reality— that are transforming life and the law in the 21st century, connecting billions of people through the internet; improving access to goods and services; and redefining commerce, education, governance, and the workplace. Since 2017, Professor Furnier has taught various courses each semester at the Law Center focusing on designing legal applications focusing primarily upon criminal and social justice reform.
