My name is Emiia D. Charles and I am a 1L at Southern University Law Center. I’m a proud Louisiana native with no plans to steer away from home but I intend to keep my options open. I’m a proud graduate of the illustrious Dillard University with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and a minor in Psychology. My main goals are to push growth and change for our great state of Louisiana. Through my own experiences I’ve grown a passion for helping families who’ve had similar experiences as myself. I aspire to be able to help families dealing with the hardships of having incarcerated family members. I also hope to be a voice for the communities who lack the resources to advocate for themselves. I’m thankful to have been accepted into the Southern University Racial Impact Study Pilot because this is only the start to how I plan to advocate for underrepresented communities and populations here in Louisiana.

I am a 2L student at Southern University Law Center. I received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Georgia State University in May 2020. I aspire to aid my community through collaborations with youth programs, formations of rehabilitation centers and shelters, practicing family law, and ultimately serving as a judge.
