NATIONAL CIVIL RIGHTS CONFERENCE ORGANIZERS
John Pierre, Chancellor
As Chancellor of the Southern University Law Center (SULC), I welcome you to Southern University A&M College! SULC is thrilled to welcome the National Civil Rights Conference to our beautiful campus and Baton Rouge, LA. Here, you will discover our rich civil rights history and learn about Southern students' activism as part of a more significant protest movement on HBCU campuses.
At Southern, we are humbled and inspired by the compassionate and selfless legacy of those who sacrificed so much during the 1950s, 1960s, and 1970s. Together, we can follow their lead to continue to advance social justice and voting rights and create a more inclusive society for all Americans.
As we say at SULC – Love, Preparation & Honor.

“This year, more than ever, we need to inform, educate and engage the populace in conversations and activities dedicated to civic engagement and, especially, the importance of the vote. The upcoming National Civil Rights Conference in Baton Rouge will provide platforms and opportunities for synergistic dialogues on civic and collective engagement.”
Dr. Keith Parker
Chair, Annual National Civil Rights Conference
Founder+ CEO, National Education and Empowerment Coalition, Inc.

“This conference will explore our past, present, and future through tours, trainings, presentations, conversations, and art, highlighting the civil rights veterans of Louisiana and honoring those who risked it all to open doors for us to walk through. Louis A. Berry, civil rights attorney, and advocate who made tremendous strides in the field, helped to start the Southern University Law Center and became one the first deans of the law center. It is fitting that we celebrate his legacy of civil rights as we also celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Southern University Law Center.”
